Life & Lessons Interview: Kyle Gawley - Tech Entrepreneur

The "Life & Lessons" interviews feature selected small business owners using Claver, to provide real everyday perspectives of running their businesses. Find out what they think and observe, and talk about the challenges they are working on. For the curious, it provides a glimpse into a different industry. And for those who aspire to enter a similar professional world, it will be an overview of what's to come.

Howdy! Tell us about yourself, and what do you do for a living?

Howdy! I'm Kyle Gawley, a full-stack indie entrepreneur. I originated from the world of venture capital-backed entrepreneurship and then pivoted to indie after a health scare that changed my life. I now build independent software businesses while travelling the world as a digital nomad.

What are you working on right now? What’s the biggest problem you face?

I'm working on Gravity – a software template that helps businesses build software products at warp speed by providing most of the features they need – like payments – out-of-the-box.

My biggest challenge as a solo-entrepreneur is always optimising time and energy to get things done – I've always got loads of ideas and not enough time to implement them.

We’re lucky to have you as a Claver User. Why made you decide to use Claver, and how has it helped you?

As a software business, licencing agreements are centric – most of mine are boilerplate and accepted at the point of sale, but occasionally I require bespoke agreements. I've always managed these with Word documents plus email - which was utterly inefficient.

How important is digital Agreements for you & your business?

What advice would you give someone who also wants to become an entrepreneur?

Ignore the glamourous Instagram posts and influencers and invest an afternoon of your time designing your dream lifestyle and business as you see it in three, five or ten years then work backwards from there. It's critical that your entrepreneurial journey serves you, and you're not trying to live up to a manufactured ideal that you've seen on Instagram.

What’s next for you? Where can we follow your adventures?

I'm focusing on pumping out great content on software entrepreneurship – you can follow me on my new Gravity blog or Twitter.
